Our Environment Team provides consultancy on both DMA architectural projects and as support to other architectural practices:
BREEAM
The Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method is the world’s longest-established method of assessing, rating and certifying the sustainability of buildings. As both BREEAM assessors and architects, we intuitively bring our understanding of design optimisation to environmental performance and seek to provide practical and elegant strategies for achieving environmental goals.
Passivhaus
The International Passivhaus Standard is a clearly defined and rigorous design and construction standard to produce comfortable, highly energy-efficient buildings with outstanding performance targets. This means buildings stay at an almost constant temperature, reducing the operational energy it takes to heat or cool a building. Our Certified Passivhaus Designer adopts a whole-building approach with clear, measured targets, focusing on high-quality construction, certified through an exacting quality assurance process.
WELL
The WELL Building Standard focusses on the health and well-being of the building occupants and users, optimising the building layout, fabric and operational policies to support physical and mental health. Our Accredited Professional can advise on creating spaces and places that advance health and well-being on all projects as well as help lead it through the Certification Process.
BIOPHILIA
This is a design approach that seeks to connect people with nature by incorporating natural elements, such as plants, water, and natural light, into buildings. It aims to improve well-being and productivity by creating spaces that mimic natural environments. By integrating greenery, natural materials, and views of nature, Biophilic Architecture fosters a sense of calm, reduces stress, and enhances human-nature interactions. By fostering this relationship with nature, biophilic architecture promotes a healthier and more sustainable way of living, benefiting both occupants and the environment.
