Loughborough University in London (LUiL) is part of an exciting community of organisations, creatives and educational providers located inside Here East. Their unique location provides a stimulating environment for students and staff to ask questions, challenge ideas and collaborate with a wide range of inspiring industry partners.

One of the main design challenges was to create an appropriate collaborative environment in a five-storey building with low floor to floor heights. The design solution involved cutting out floor plates to create visual and physical links between different floor levels, removing ceilings and working with innovative furniture and partition solutions to create a flexible but inspiring environment. The plan was developed to enable a bridge link to the adjoining Here East theatre.

This is the second project DMA have worked on for the Olympic Park, the first being the Waterpolo Venue which was awarded sustainable building of the year. Both projects have pushed the boundaries of sustainability. 90% of the component parts of the Water Polo Venue have now been re-used at other venues throughout the world. Whereas LUiL has become the re-use of an existing structure.
