Loughborough University commissioned David Morley Architects to masterplan a new village and Elite Athlete Centre around an active landscape that would inspire and enable increased physical activity among residents. The design, which yielded positive results within its first month of opening, explored the concept of “Health by Stealth” where the landscape created opportunities to relax, socialise and play informal games building friendships while increasing fitness levels.
The ‘Active Landscape’ is an initiative driven by Loughborough University to create an inclusive campus where activity is accessible to everyone and stimulates participation. The initiative is strongly supported by Sport England and UK Sport who have been consulted in the development of this concept.
The Claudia Parsons Hall is the newest hall of residence, a result of an almost £50M investment in the University’s student village. It’s Loughborough’s first hall to be named after a woman, Claudia was an English engineer, adventurer and graduate of the university. To protect native species in the area, the hall is filled with plants and greenery promoting a biodiverse campus.
