Having founded David Morley Architects in 1987, after 13 years working with Norman Foster, David has brought together a team that have designed 500 projects winning over 100 awards, including Sustainable Practice of the Year, Most Sustainable Building in the UK of the Year and Best Mixed-Use Development in the UK. Completed buildings include pioneering healthcare projects, 15 projects at Lord’s Ground, three projects at the University of Oxford, the London 2012 Water Polo Venue, five projects for the Royal Parks and four projects at London’s King’s Cross.

David Morley’s expertise in world class sports venue design began with the successful international competition entry for the Lord’s Indoor Cricket Centre in 1993. Since then, the practice portfolio has expanded to include residential, healthcare, education, sport, commercial and environmental consultancy. David’s role in any project is at the highest level of design direction from establishing the design concept through to the details of project delivery.

David Morley is an honorary scholar of King’s College Cambridge and qualified with his diploma in architecture from the Architectural Association in 1980. David’s design philosophy is evident in the large number of competition wins and design awards that the practice has secured. The practice now enjoys repeat work from many distinguished clients including Marylebone Cricket Club (Lord’s), The University of Oxford, Loughborough University, Urban Splash, The Royal Parks and Related Argent.

He has lectured at many universities and conferences, including the AJ Conference: ‘2012 and Beyond: Designing Facilities for Future Generations’ and the ‘Wood for Gold’ conference. He has delivered a refereed research paper to the Passive Low Energy Architecture conference in 2002. Other former appointments include: Chairman for RIBA Awards in Wales, N Ireland and the Eastern Region; Chairman of the Aluminium Imagination Awards; RIBA adviser to the London Institute; RIBA adviser to Ripon College; RIBA adviser to Middlesex University; RIBA adviser to Stratford-on-Avon Council; RIBA adviser to the Foreign Office; Assessor NHS Estates Design Awards; Member of the Builder Group Academy.

David published his first book ‘Five by 5’ in 2012 and has featured in Sky TV’s Developing Britain series. He judges RIBA Competitions and the Wood Awards. David loves sailing when time permits.
