It’s thrilling to hear what locals are saying about Matlock Spa, the residential development embracing nature and healthy living that David Morley Architects has designed for Rifkind Associates in the Derbyshire Dales. Local press has published accounts from its residents, one of whom says that their “quality of life has definitely improved” since moving to the new spa village.

The concept of Matlock Spa builds on the traditional spa town tradition with health and wellbeing as a key focus of the plan. Pathways and roads are designed to encourage walking and cycling, front doors face out to the country park setting, and all homes are designed to make the most of the natural daylight.

The Matlock Spa villages have started to bring new life to the disused Cawdor Quarry and residents have been able to take advantage of this diverse and spectacular site. Surrounding the homes are rocky outcrops, lakes, and an extensive frontage onto the River Derwent. The “beautiful” new spa villages are positioned so the community can enjoy splendid views out to the Derbyshire Dales and Peak District National Park beyond.

The first phase of properties completed for the scheme include the ‘Spa Villas’ and ‘Crescent Spa’ homes situated at the gateway to the site and include 2-bed apartments, penthouses, 3-bed townhouses, 3-storey townhouses and 4-bed detached houses. Construction has recently begun on the next phase of apartments, known as Spa Lofts.
