Plimsoll Building wins New London Award
David Morley Architects is delighted its Plimsoll Building in Kings Cross has won the housing category at NLA Awards. The prestigious awards recognise the very best in architecture, planning and development in the capital. David Morley Architects beat over 20 others architects to win the highly sought-after award.
The Plimsoll Building is situated alongside the Regent’s Canal, next to both the Tapestry, and the Gasholder No 8, which is being transformed into a beautiful urban park and events space.
It comprises of 178 private apartments, including the Winter block, 77 affordable rented homes being provided in partnership with the Dolphin Square Foundation. The building also has two schools, on the ground and first floors: a two-form entry Academy primary school with a 26-place nursery attached; and the Frank Barnes School for deaf children. These schools are cleverly collocated together and share facilities within an integrated, inclusive and sign/spoken bilingual environment.
