Work starts on David Morley's Oxford Uni China Centre
The project, which began on site earlier this week, will provide Oxford University with a dedicated building for the study of China.
The building’s academic and residential facilities are arranged around a sunken linear courtyard in a series of three linked pavilions, designed to break down the scheme’s scale and relate it to the surrounding college and residential accommodation.
The ground, first and second floors contain a mix of professional office and research space, teaching rooms and meeting rooms, with a 100 person lecture theatre and library placed on the lower ground level.
On the upper levels 63 student study-bedrooms, all en-suite, grouped in flats with self-contained kitchen facilities are arranged with views out to the surrounding garden spaces.
A large 200 seat dining hall and commercial kitchen provides catering for the wider College.
