Lee Valley Athletics Centre plays host to The Apprentice
Sir Alan Sugar briefed The Apprentice candidates at the Lee Valley Athletics Centre for a sporty task in the latest series for BBC One. Referring to the centre as 'one of the greatest sporting venues in the UK', he set the challenge to create a new piece of portable gym equipment.
Lee Valley Athletics Centre is the only elite athletics training centre in the South East and is a key facility for British athletes aiming to compete in the 2012 Olympics. Three of the four British track and field medalists at Beijing train there. It also hosts a variety of community and other uses - some of which target people who have never trained in athletics before. It was awarded the highest Display Energy Certificate DEC rating - grade A on a scale of A-G; demonstrating a very low annual CO2 emission and energy consumption. DEC’s are now required for all public buildings, and only the top 1% achieved the A grade.
The centre also featured in the trailer for the Great British Food Fight, a new Channel 4 series in which celebrity chefs compete in a series of challenges, and was a finalist in the London Planning Awards.
