Juliet Erridge and Barbara Wood to speak at Design in Mental Health Conference

Juliet Erridge, Associate Director at David Morley Architects will be speaking with Barbara Wood, Redevelopment Programme Manager - Service & Business Change - West London Mental Health NHS Trust on May 19th from 14.15 to 15.10 at the Design in Mental Health Conference in Birmingham about the redevelopment of the new medium secure campus at St Bernard’s Hospital.

The talk entitled Redeveloping an Asylum for the Demands of the 21 Century, will briefly set out the approach taken to the overall site master plan and phasing of the development. It will concentrate on how the sometimes conflicting demands of creating a therapeutic environment, meeting the medium secure standards and designing a scheme appropriate for the context of listed buildings have been resolved. The design has been prepared by all consultants using BIM and some of the lessons learnt will be presented.

The Design in Mental Health Conference promotes collaboration between professionals to deliver the next generation of mental health facilities. The two-day conference and exhibition focuses on developing safe and secure therapeutic environments that truly meet the needs of service users and frontline staff. As well as academic research and expert opinion, the conference includes first-hand testimony from service users themselves, providing unique insights from those already benefitting from mental health facilities – and eager to see innovations that could transform recovery rates.
